Take a drive in any direction on Long Island and you'll eventually pass a golf course.
Known mainly to outsiders for the legendary Bethpage Black (host of 2002 and 2009 U.S. Open) and as hosts of the 1995 and 2004 U.S. Open at the private Shinnecock Hills, Long Island has a golf history and tradition much deeper than that.
