Crab Meadow Beach in Northport has everything that a family with kids needs to have a good day at the beach. First, the parking is close. You'll never walk more than five minutes from your seat in the car to your seat in the sand.
The playground is big enough to accommodate many kids and has enough shaded areas that you don't have to worry about your toddler getting too burned.
The beach is wide enough - more than 1,000 feet - that you can find your own space. And because of the sand bar that is usually there, kids will find large bodies of water just a few feet deep so they can pick shells off the bottom.
When you get hungry, just walk down the short boardwalk to La Casa Cafe for a slice of pizza and an Italian ice. There is even a sit-down restaurant if you want to escape the heat.
Other amenities include a picnic and pavilion area, boardwalk, outdoor shower, cement walkway, beach wheelchair and aid station.
