YMCA's free 'Healthy Kids Day' this Saturday
Looking for something fun to do with the kids on Saturday? Four YMCA centers on Long Island will be hosting a Healthy Kids Day, offering free, fun-filled activities, classes and programs for the whole family (even to non-YMCA members) in Huntington, Bay Shore, Glen Cove and Patchogue.
Bethpage Federal Credit Union is sponsoring the event which features family-friendly activities such as sports, cooking, arts and crafts, dancing and more. Each YMCA facility will offer a specialized schedule of events. Here's what's going on at each location:
Huntington YMCA (60 Main St., Huntington)
1-4 p.m.; 631-421-4242
Activities include a jump rope contest, Zumba, a Youth Movement class, soccer, basketball, family swim, a petting zoo as well as safety demonstrations for car seats and boating. Plus, children can register for a half-mile "Kids Fun Run" starting at 2 p.m.
Great South Bay YMCA (200 W. Main St., Bay Shore)
10 a.m.-1 p.m.; 631-665-4255
Kids and adults can enjoy baseball pitching, World Cup soccer, a family fitness challenge, rock wall climbing, bounce houses, family swim (from 1:30-3 p.m.), healthy kids cooking (from 12:15-1 p.m.), Jitterbug Gym playground (from 12:15-1 p.m.) and Y Arts acting (from 12:30-1 p.m.). There will also be a Zumbatomic class from 12:15-1 p.m.
Glen Cove YMCA (125 Dosoris Lane, Glen Cove)
11 a.m.-2 p.m.; 516-671-8270
Family-friendly events include yoga, Zumba, basketball, relay races, an inflatable obstacle course, swimming, arts and crafts and face painting.
Patchogue YMCA (255 Main St., Patchogue)
11 a.m. - 3 p.m.; 631-891-1800
Events at this location include: a teen fitness demonstration (from 11-11:30 a.m.), family Zumba (from noon-1 p.m.), a nutrition seminar (from noon-1 p.m.) and a Tai Chi demonstration (from 1-1:30 p.m.). Games and other outdoor activities are also included.
