Weekend family fun on Long Island: Zendaya, Barnaby, wild animals and more
Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From a classic performance to a Christmas adventure, a Disney concert, animal lessons and more, there's much to do on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for fun, family friendly activities this weekend:
1. "Go, Dog, Go!" at the Long Island Children's Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City. P.D. Eastman's classic book comes to life on Friday and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Parents can download a guide before the show. Price: $8 with museum admission ($11), $7 for groups over 10 people, $12 theater only.
2. "The Fox and the Hound" at Tackapausha Museum and Preserve, Washington Avenue, Seaford. Learn about the red fox and coyotes, presented by Frank Vincenti of the nonprofit Wild Dog Foundation at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Price: $5.
3."Barnaby" at Theatre Three, 412 Main St., Port Jefferson. On Saturday at 11 a.m., join Santa, Barnaby, Franklynne and all of their friends for a fun Christmas adventure where they learn the true meaning of the holiday season. Price: $10.
4. Science Sunday: "Get Ready for Winter" at Sands Point Preserve, 127 Middle Neck Rd., Sands Point. Join ranger Eric Powers for a close look at some live animals and discover how they survive the winter. The event on Sunday at noon will be held at the Phil Dejana learning center and outdoor classroom. Price: $10 per car.
5. Teen Music Fest at Nassau Coliseum, 1255 Hempstead Tpke., Uniondale. Teens can enjoy a night out at a dance-music concert with Zendaya, the star of the Disney TV’s sitcom, “Shake It Up.” The teen star takes the stage performing with the Zswagg Dancers and Poplyfe Band along with a full lineup of teen sensations including IM5 at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Price: $30 to $80.
