Weekend family fun on Long Island: Waffle Making, 'Beauty and the Beast' and more
Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From bubble shows and waffle making to "Beauty and the Beast" and more, there's much to do on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for family-friendly activities this weekend:
Beauty and the Beast at Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (71 E. Main St., Patchogue) starting Friday, Dec. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 29. Times vary. Families can enjoy a live performance of the musical fairy tale. Price: $25-$69.
Snowflake Week at Long Island Science Center (11 W. Main St. Riverhead) starting Friday, Dec. 27 through Tuesday, Dec. 31 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids can learn how snowflakes and crystals are formed with fun, educational activities. Price: $5
Holiday Vacation Portrait Workshop at Parrish Art Museum (279 Montauk Hwy., Water Mill) on Friday, Dec. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Kids can create their own portraits. The morning session is appropriate for kids age 4 to 6 and the afternoon session is for kids ages 7 and older. Register ahead of time. Price: $40.
Bubble Trouble Show at Long Island Children's Museum (11 Davis Ave., Garden City) on Friday, Dec. 27 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Join bubble expert Jeff Boyer and learn advanced bubble skills to take out and use in the museum's “Bubbles” gallery. Appropriate for ages 3 and up. Price: $5 with museum admission, $10 theater only.
Waffle Day at Children's Museum of the East End (376 Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Tpke., Bridgehampton) on Sunday, Dec. 29 from 10 to 11 a.m. Children can help make their own circus-shaped Belgian waffles. Price: $18
