Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From New Year's celebrations and art adventures to "Peter Pan and Wendy" and more, there's much to do on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for family-friendly activities this weekend:
Dorothy Meets Alice: The Wizard of Wonderland at Studio Theatre (141 S. Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst) on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. A live performance of the tale of a boy who didn't want to grow up. Price: $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Sculpture Art Caper and Exploration Activity Backpack at Hofstra University's Emily Lowe Gallery (Hempstead Turnpike, Hempstead) on Saturday, Jan. 4 and Sunday, Jan. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. Pick up a backpack and solve an Art Caper mystery by unraveling clues found while exploring the outdoor sculpture collection. Appropriate for children ages 5 to 10. Price: Free.
Celebrate the New Year at Maritime Explorium (101 E. Broadway, Port Jefferson) on Saturday, Jan. 4 and Sunday, Jan. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. Kids can learn about geometry and design their own Times Square Ball. Price: $5.
Northern Spur Train and Swap Meet at Knights of Columbus (400 S. Broadway, Lindenhurst) on Sunday, Jan. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Perfect for little car and train lovers, this event features tons of model cars, railroad equipment and more. Price: $4, children under 16 free with one paid admission.
