Santa may live way up north, but kids can get closer to St. Nick than ever this Christmas with a fun holiday app.

Using "Portable North Pole" — updated for 2013 — kids can receive special messages from Santa. The short videos will make their day, and serve as the perfect reminder to behave well and stay on the "nice" list.

The app, available for Android, iPhone and iPad, also features a Christmas countdown game that provides kids with a new surprise activity each morning such as a puzzle or coloring page.

As Dec. 25 creeps closer, kids can also track how close Santa is to their home.

For a fee, the app offers services for parents such as the opportunity to create a personalized video message or set up a phone call from Santa.

"Portable North Pole" is $3.99 (phones) and $4.99 (tablets).
