PBS Kids recently released a free app, Plum's Photo Hunt, encouraging kids to explore their backyard through photos.

Similar to a scavenger hunt, kids ages 4 and older can follow Plum, an alien from the Planet Blorb, who sends kids on outdoor adventures to photograph things they find in nature such as flowers, bugs, plants and more.

The free app first prompts children to check with an adult before heading into their backyard. Kids can then embark on 36 different missions, snapping photos with a mobile device of bugs or insects, the sunset and even something interesting they find under a rock.

Kids have the option of taking a "photobomb," which includes Plum and one of her five friends. When the mission is completed, send pictures to Plum on pbskids.org/plumlanding, and a few photos will be published to the site each week.
