With public school spring breaks coming up next week, children across Long Island will be looking to fill their free time. Here are new craft books for kids:

In "Box! Castles, Kitchens and Other Cardboard Creations for Kids" (Lyons Press, $18.95), "Sesame Street" puppeteer Noel MacNeal embraces the magic of an empty box. Dozens of projects use cereal and packing boxes, even milk cartons. Creations include a banjo, a balloon ping-pong game and more.

Get Dad involved in the action with "Dad's Book of Awesome Science Experiments" (Adams Media, $18.99) by Mike Adamick. The book's 30 experiments include creating "Soap Clouds," making "Straw Balloon Rocket Blasters" and carrying out the always- popular "Mentos and Coke Rocket" eruption.

Former Parents magazine lifestyle director Amanda Kingloff has written "Project Kid: 100 Ingenious Crafts for Family Fun" (Artisan Books, $22.95), which includes making a mini piƱata, a superhero cape and more.
