Moms take the runway at New York Fashion Week
Moms took to the runway this weekend for the third year in a row at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. This year's theme was "Strutting for a Cause" as the model moms were joined by the wives of the New York Yankees' CC Sabathia and Jorge Posada, as well as the wife of the New York Knicks' Amar'e Stoudemire.
Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show -- co-created by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, executive producer of SWW Creative, and Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein of The MOMS -- featured a collection of top contemporary designers to showcase looks that are realistic for today's moms.
According to a news release, this season's theme of "Moms Strut for a Cause" rewards mothers and women with their moment in the spotlight wearing the latest fashion, while celebrating those who have made a difference and constantly give back to their children and community.
"We really are living our dreams -- we are proud to be here, bringing together inspiring, hardworking women who are all making a difference.” says Strut co-founder, Denise Albert of The MOMS. “Strut strives to give moms a platform through social media and 'word of mom' to raise awareness, inspire and support others in a unique way. There is no better feeling than seeing moms dance and strut down our runway while spreading important messages."
Bloomingdales styled the show highlighting the top fall fashion trends that can take any mom from runway to everyday life. All looks can be found in stores and online. Other designers featured include Bungalow, LV, Ramy Brook, Jay Godfrey, Tom by Ronny Kobo, Yosi Samra, Twenty, JustFab, Jay Unger and Zeus+Dione.
Amber Sabathia -- Sabathia's wife as well as entrepreneur, philanthropist, creator and designer of CCandy -- walked the runway along with her children for the PitCCh In Foundation, which helps inner-city youth raise their self-esteem and offer hope through education and athletic activities.
Also strutting their stuff for their favorite charity were: Alexis Stoudemire (Stoudemire's wife), actress Alysia Reiner of "Orange is the New Black," Laura Posada (Posada's wife), NBC's Darlene Rodriguez, Victoria Recano of "Inside Edition," Katina Taylor (wife of former NFL star Jason Taylor) and actress Melissa Joan Hart.
Sponsors included Cottonelle, Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer and Whirlpool.
