Moms produce calendar, fashion show to fight breast cancer
The annual Long Island Moms Who Kick Inc. fashion show is set for Wednesday, Oct. 9, in Hauppauge. The breast cancer awareness group is also releasing its sixth annual Moms Who Kick to Find a Cure" fundraising calendar, featuring 15 everyday Long Island women, including nine cancer survivors.
The new calendar’s theme is Retro-Glam / Vintage Pinup. For the first time, it features non-moms as part of the launch of a new Moms Who Kick endeavor, Women Who Kick for non-moms affected by the disease. The suggested donation for the 2014 calendar is $20.
Each of the calendar girls will walk the runway at the fashion show during the calendar launch party from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Wall St. NightClub, 575 Smithtown Bypass, Hauppauge. Tickets are $100 and include a buffet dinner, two-hour open bar, dancing and raffle prizes. Advance reservations are required.
Personal fitness and martial arts trainer Joanne Hutchins of Bayville launched the group in 2008, after her aunt and mother were both diagnosed with breast cancer. The original calendar came out in 2009 and featured martial arts women impacted by the disease who promoted healthy lifestyles.
Proceeds from the calendar and fashion show benefit The Breast and Ovarian Cancer Studies conducted at the North Shore-LIJ Monter Cancer Center in New Hyde Park and The Feinstein Institute for Cancer Research in Manhasset. Moms Who Kick has donated more than $25,000 so far. Calendars and fashion show tickets are available online at momswhokick.com.
