MommaCon parenting expo on Long Island
More than 150 companies catering to North Shore Long Island families are set to gather Sunday at LIU Post in Brookville for the first MommaCon expo.
"It's like a trade show," says co-founder Jeannine Henvey, a Huntington mom of three. Vendors in booths will exhibit birthday party venues, summer camps, dancing schools and more. Businesses such as Music Together and Not Just Art of Oyster Bay will be offering free classes for kids. Educational seminars scheduled include a food editor from Family Circle magazine talking about preparing healthful school lunches and a psychologist covering sleep challenges and positive parenting tips.
Most exhibitors are located between Port Washington and Huntington, though some are from Northport and Great Neck, Henvey says.
Participants will each get a raffle ticket at the door, and every 10 minutes an item will be raffled, including a $700 spa-party for five women from Truth + Beauty of Roslyn, a free week of summer camp at West Hills Day Camp in Huntington and five free classes from Soul Cycle in Roslyn Heights.
"We thought it would be cool to create a place where moms can find out about all things kid-related and mommy-needed in their area," Henvey says. "Kind of like a little black book."
MommaCon will take place on Sunday, March 23 at LIU Post (720 Northern Blvd., Brookville) from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is $5 a person; younger than 2 are free. For more information, call 917-533-3215 or visit mommacon.com.
