Miley Cyrus-inspired twerker punished in California
If you found out your 11-year-old daughter was twerking at a school dance, what would you do?
One mom in Bakersfield, Calif., took to the streets. Frances Hena paraded her daughter Jamie, in a pair of short shorts, at a busy intersection for two hours on Monday while the girl held a sign that read, “I was disrespecting my parents by twerking at a school dance.”
Apparently inspired by Miley Cyrus’ performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, the preteen thought it was a good idea to twerk, even though her mom warned her not to do the sexually suggestive dance.
A family friend who attended the dance told on Jamie, but her mom is disturbed that no one at the school stopped the twerk-fest, or even notified her that her daughter was doing the dance.
“I haven’t heard anything from the school still, and it’s just ridiculous to think that’s OK at a school dance. I’m also not sure my daughter realizes how seriously I take this. It’s not something kids should be doing,” Hena told CBSNews.com.
Twerking at any age, in public, on MTV, or YouTube, is questionable, but for a child, at a school dance, it’s unacceptable.
Young girls may not understand the message they are sending by doing this dance. And I’m hoping that Frances Hena had that discussion with young Jamie before they got to the intersection of shame.
Do you think twerking is a punishable offense, or did this mom go too far?
