Need weekend plans or something to do with the kids during the week? There are a ton of free children's events at local libraries, but we also found free things to do elsewhere this month. Whether you have one, two, three or more kids in tow, here's a roundup of fun, budget-friendly events in July.

Long Beach Summer Movie Nights (various locations in Long Beach), bring a blanket or a chair for "The Wizard of Oz" on Saturday, July 12, at 8:30 p.m. (Neptune Boulevard) and "Jaws" (on two screens) on Saturday, July 19, at 8:15 p.m. (Lafayette Boulevard).

Sculpture Art Caper and Exploration Activity Backpack at Hofstra University's Emily Lowe Gallery (Hempstead Turnpike, Hempstead) running weekly throughout the year, ending Sunday, Dec. 21. Times vary. Pick up a backpack and solve an Art Caper mystery by unraveling clues found while exploring the outdoor sculpture collection. Appropriate for children ages 5 to 10.

Moona Luna at Heckscher Park (2 Prime Ave., Huntington) on Tuesday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m. Families can enjoy a bilingual Latin pop rock band, part of the Huntington Summer Arts Festival.

Cooking for Hope at Chabad Center for Jewish Life (2083 Seneca Gate, Merrick) on Tuesday, July 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. Teens ages 13-18 can learn to cook a variety of kosher dishes. Registration is required.

Lakeside Fishing Clinic at Lake Ronkonkoma Beach (Lake Shore Road, Lake Ronkonkoma) on Wednesday, July 9, at 6 p.m. Families can learn basic instruction focusing on fish identification, techniques, regulations and stewardship practices. Loaner rods are available; registration is required.

Film: "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2" at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater of Eisenhower Park (Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue, East Meadow) on Thursday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. An animated family comedy starring the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris and Will Forte; rated PG. The movie is held outdoors, parking field #6; bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Port Jefferson Children's Shows at Port Jefferson Village Hall (121 W. Broadway, Port Jefferson), family-friendly shows featuring Steve Rodman on Thursday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m.; The Silly Magician on Thursday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m.; Songs by Lena on Thursday, July 24, at 6:30 p.m. and The Very Cool Music School on Thursday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m.

Children's Hands-on Milling at Water Mill Museum (41 Old Mill Rd., Water Mill) on Mondays and Thursdays in July, at 11:30 a.m. Kids will learn about the water-powered mill and its giant stone wheels and wooden gears that grind the grain. It's a free event, but donations are accepted.

Kids Concert: Didi Maxx at Hoyt Farm Park Preserve (200 New Highway, Commack) on Friday, July 11, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Smithtown residents are welcome to enjoy an outdoor performance by Didi Maxx. Bring chairs and a picnic; rain date is July 18.

Nature Study and Woodland Walk at Bailey Arboretum (194 Bayville Rd. and Feeks Lane, Lattingtown) on Saturday, July 12, at 3 p.m. Children ages 10 and older will take a walk to look for birds, fish, turtles, aquatic insects and more. In the woodland, they'll explore trees, plants and soils.

The Funny Man Show at Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve (25 Lloyd Harbor Rd., Lloyd Neck) on Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. Ellis Adler, creator and star of "The Funny Man Show," will perform for children, showing them the process of being a clown.

Family Nature Bingo at Downs Farm Preserve (23800 County Rte. 25, Cutchogue) on Saturday, July 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. Play bingo while learning about common Long Island animals; registration is required.

Talking Trash: Making a World of Difference in Your Own Backyard at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge (340 Smith Rd., Shirley) on Saturday, July 12, at 1:30 p.m. Local photographer Sean Keenan will discuss the challenges animals face due to trash and balloons; recommended for families with children ages 12 and older.

Movies in the Park: "Matilda" at Clinton G. Martin Park (1601 Marcus Ave., New Hyde Park) on Sunday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m. Watch the 1996 American fantasy children's film based on Roald Dahl's novel starring Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman and Mara Wilson; rated PG.

Lost Ladybug Project at Quail Hill Farm (Old Stone Highway and Deep Lane, Amagansett) on Tuesday, July 15, at 10 a.m. Help capture, identify and release ladybugs to further the Lost Ladybug Project. Children can join a special expedition led by entomologist Andrew Blaurock. Reservations are required.

Film: "Turbo" at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater of Eisenhower Park (Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue, East Meadow) on Thursday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to parking field #6 and watch the animated adventure comedy starring the voices of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti and Maya Rudolph; rated PG.

Presentation: Creatures of the Bay at the Seaford Historical Society and Museum (3890 Waverly Ave., Seaford) on Thursday, July 17, at 7 p.m. This interactive presentation will feature clams, crabs, mussels, starfish, eels and horeshoe crabs; refreshments will be served.

Magic in the Walled Garden at Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve (25 Lloyd Harbor Rd., Lloyd Neck) on Saturday, July 19, at 10 a.m. Chris Homer performs a private show for children and adults, where he focuses on charity events and gives much of his time to the less fortunate. Bring your own seating; stay after the show for a walk or picnic.

"Beauty and the Beast", a live performance by Plaza Productions of this classic fairy tale, will take place at Heckscher Park (2 Prime Ave., Huntington) on Tuesday, July 1, at 7:30 p.m.; Ellsworth Allen Park (Motor Avenue, Farmingdale) on Monday, July 21, at 1:30 p.m.; Marjorie R. Young People and the Arts Series: Motion Man at Clinton G. Martin Park (1601 Marcus Ave., New Hyde Park) on Tuesday, July 22, at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 12 and younger can enjoy a mime act with giant bubbles, a parasol, a floating hat and more.

Let's Play: Old Fashioned Toys at William Floyd Estate (245 Park Dr., Mastic Beach) on Saturday, July 26, from 11 a.m. to noon. Children can explore some classic games, including Jacob's Ladder, marbles, spin tops and more.

Concert: Hip Pickles Family Night at Mary Jane Davies Park (Plandome Road, Manhasset) on Monday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m. A live outdoor performance by Hip Pickles, a band that blends drumming, singing and dancing with audience participation; bring a chair.

American Ballet Showcase at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater of Eisenhower Park (Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue, East Meadow) on Tuesday, July 29, at 7 p.m. Families can watch a performance of "Peter and the Wolf," a Russian children's tale set to music by Prokofiev, with the South Shore Symphony and dancers from American Ballet Theater.

Soul Street Dance at Heckscher Park (2 Prime Ave., Huntington) on Tuesday, July 29, at 7:30 p.m. A street-dance ensemble in concert, featuring family-friendly hip-hop, classical and new dance styles.
