Children love watching their favorite characters come to life on stage, and there's no shortage of theatrical events on Long Island. Since many of the shows require some forethought, here's a sampling of family-friendly shows throughout October to help you plan a fun-filled day.

The Ghost of Sleepy Hallow at Vanderbilt Mansion's Carriage House Theater (180 Little Neck Rd., Centerport) on Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. starting Sept. 28 through Oct. 6. This performance is adapted from Washington Irving's tale of the Headless Horseman and includes audience participation. Price: $10 for adults, $8 for children.

The Wiggles at NYCB Theatre at Westbury (960 Brush Hallow Rd., Westbury) on Friday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. Check out a live performance by The Wiggles featuring favorites like Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog, and Henry the Octopus. Price: $19.50-$75.50.

Jigsaw Jones: The Case of the Class Clown at Van Nostrand Theatre (Suffolk County Community College, Crooked Hill Rd., Brentwood) on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. In this children's theatrical production, Athena Lorenzo has been slimed and it's up to Jigsaw and his friend Mila to track down the class clown. Appropriate for grades 1-4. Price: $8.

Cinderella at Studio Theatre (141 S. Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst) on Saturdays at 2 p.m. starting Oct. 5 through Oct. 26. Enjoy a live performance of the classic children's fairy tale. Price: $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Pinocchio at BroadHollow Theatre Company (700 Hempstead Tpke., Elmont) on Saturday Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. and Sunday Oct. 6 at 12 p.m. Enjoy a live performance of the popular children's tale. Price: $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Cinderella at Long Island Children's Museum (11 Davis Ave., Garden City) on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Enjoy this classic fairy tale performed by Plaza Theatrical Productions. Price: $12.

The Littlest Witch at BroadHollow's BayWay Arts Center (265 E. Main St., East Islip) on Saturdays at 2 p.m. starting Oct. 5 through Oct. 26. This live performance tells the story of a mischievous little witch that mixes up her holiday with every other season but her own. Price: $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Mr. Mouse Orange Show at Mills Pond House (660 Rte. 25A , St. James) on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This family-friendly performance features Katie's Puppets and kids can make their own puppet after the show. Price: $9.

Knuffle Bunny at BroadHollow's BayWay Arts Center (265 E. Main St., East Islip) on Monday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. Families can enjoy this live musical performance. Price: $10.

CLUSTER at Long Island Children's Museum (11 Davis Ave., Garden City) on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. Enjoy a live musical performance from this a cappella group. Price: $15.

The Wizard of Oz at BroadHollow Theatre Company (700 Hempstead Tpke., Elmont) on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. Enjoy a live performance of the classic tale of Dorothy, the wizard and the friends she meets along the way. Price: $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

 

The Legend of Sleepy Hallow at Sands Point Preserve (127 Middle Neck Rd., Sands Point) on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m. Enjoy this family musical by John David Earnest and Mervyn Goldstein based on the 1820 story of the Headless Horseman. Price: $20 for adults, $10 for children.
