Family-friendly performances on Long Island in February
Children love watching their favorite characters come to life on stage, and there's no shortage of theatrical events on Long Island. Since many of the shows require some forethought, here's a sampling of family-friendly shows throughout February to help you plan a fun-filled day.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt at LIU Tilles Center (Route 25 A, Brookhaven) on Sunday, Feb 3, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Enjoy catchy songs and interactive scenes based on Michael Rosen's award-winning book. Recommended for ages 3 and up. Price: $14-$22.
Disney's Aladdin Jr. at Patchogue Theatre for Performing Arts (71 E. Main St., Patchogue) on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. A stage adaptation of the Disney film; expect to see magic, flying carpet rides and more. Price: $14-$20.
Raggedy Ann and Andy, or Friends and Friends and Friends at Theatre Three (412 Main St., Port Jefferson) on Saturday, Feb. 2, Wednesday, Feb. 20, Thursday, Feb. 21, Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. Join the famous rag dolls as they embark on an adventure to bring a little girl a very special doll. Price: $10.
Sleeping Beauty at Studio Theatre (141 S. Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst) on Saturday, Feb. 2, and Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. This musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale blends comedy and enchanting magic as the evil Thornberry puts a curse on Princess Elaine (the sleeping beauty). Price: $10.
Musical: Pinkalicious at John W. Engelman Theater (250 Main St., Northport) on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Pinkalicious can't stop eating pink cupcakes, and her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor's office with Pinkitis. Help Pinkalicious stop her favorite hue from going too far. Price: $15.
Sleeping Beauty Dreams at Long Island Children's Museum (11 Davis. Ave., Garden City) on Saturday, Feb. 23, and Sunday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale gets a modern makeover as an overprotected daughter searches for true love. Recommended for ages 3 and up. Price: $5 with museum admission ($12); $10 theater only.
Circo Comedia at Van Nostrand Theatre at Suffolk Community College (Crooked Hill Rd., Brentwood) on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. Join Jean Saucier, a juggler, acrobat, trick cyclist and magician from the Quebec Circus, as he performs along with Patrick Cote, a burlesque clown, expert roller skater and drummer. Price: $15.
Pinkalicious at Bellmore Movies (222 Pettit Ave., Bellmore) on Saturdays at 11 a.m., as well as Monday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. After the show, kids can meet Pinkalicious and all their favorite characters from the book. Price: $10.
Rock the Presidents at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center (76 Main St., Westhampton) on Friday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This high octane musical revue spans 223 years of the American presidency, from George Washington to Barack Obama. Price: $10-$12.
The Wizard of Oz at Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts (2 E. Main St., Smithtown) on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m., as well as Monday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m. Follow Dorothy in her quest to find the Wizard who can help her return home. Price: $15.
