An Alabama couple has taken sports fandom to a whole new level.

Summer and Steven Steele of Andalusia, Ala., have named their newborn son Krimson Tyde in honor of the University of Alabama's football team, the Crimson Tide, according to multiple published reports. The choice may be unusual, but the Steeles were shocked when their new addition caused a stir on social media outlets.

Baby Krimson was born Dec. 17, and the news quickly went viral on Twitter shortly after. Many were harsh and critical of the new parents:

"Two more people that should have their parental privileges revoked," -- @Mark_J_Boyle.

"Why? I would despise my parents if they named me that,"-- @ThenTylaSaid.

"Re-evaluate your life if you name your kid 'Krimson Tyde,'" -- @emilyheaddd.

According to Alabama Media Group, mom Summer Steele said: "I'm shocked, I didn't think people would make such a big deal about it."

My husband and I decided to name our kids Maggie and Benjamin, which are timeless, classic names. Still, we've gotten a few negative comments about our choices. Why do we care so much what other people name their kids?
