How pink ribbon bagels can help
The month of October was a very special month. It was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. What made it extra special for me was participating in the Pink Ribbon Bagel campaign that Panera Bread holds every year to raise money to help fight breast cancer. Panera partners with important charities on Long Island, one of which is the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition. My grandmother, Renee, was a volunteer at the Coalition after being diagnosed with breast cancer almost 20 years ago. Now, my mom volunteers, too, and I am proud to say the tradition continues with my own experience.
On Friday, Oct. 18, I got to work with a group of kids at Panera. We were able to make ribbon-shaped bagels with the head baker of Panera, Janet. We all had lots of fun baking for a good cause. By purchasing a Pink Ribbon Bagel at Panera during October, people helped contribute to the fight against breast cancer. A portion of the proceeds goes to benefit charities on Long Island.
I had a great time volunteering at Panera. I hope I can do it again next year and continue to help support groups that are helping women and looking for a cure for breast cancer.
Even though October was designated as breast cancer month, research and help are needed all the time. For information on how you can help or volunteer, go online: makingstrides.acsevents.org
