The Hamptons crowd welcomes Dwayne Wade
It was a superstar summit of sorts Saturday, when Jon Bon Jovi brought son Jesse to Niche Media Haley and Jason Binn’s soiree honoring Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade. Wade has a lot to celebrate these days: he, LeBron James and Chris Bosh all signed six-year contracts with the Miami Heat, fulfilling a pact they seemingy made during the 2008 Olympics to play together.
Feting Wade’s first foray into the Hamptons, the Binns took over the outdoor dining area of Madame Tong’s Redeux in Southampton, moving to RDV for an after party sponsored by Hamptons Magazine and Mark Baker.
It capped a long day for Wade. “We had a great time at polo,” he said, “an awesome time coming out here and doing something different."
There’s been some pretty pubic partying in Miami this summer, as well. “Hopefully we’ll celebrate with some wins,” Wade told us of the new triumvirate, “and just enjoying this opportunity that we all have to play together for the next six years and do something different in the game you haven’t seen. We look forward to it. It’s going to be hard, but it’s going to be fun at the same time.”
This summer, Wade started stepping out publicly with girlfriend actress Gabriele Union. Saturday night, she started chatting with Star Jones while he bonded with Bon Jovi. A consummate host, Binn defty made all appropriate introductions. Among the guests were Nacho and Dephina Figueras, the Countess de Lesseps and Jacques Azoulay, Veronica Webb, and Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy , who was quick to tell Wade he played basketball for the University of Scranton. Wade stared blankly at the 5-foot-10-inch reality TV star.
But Wade was happy to talk about Binn. “I met Jason through our Chicago ties,” said the native Chicagoan. “He does Michigan Ave. I was putting an event together, and I reached out to my guys in Chicago to try to find the best people to link up with. Jason was the guy they recommended. We’ve had a relationship ever since. He’s a really good guy and very supportive. … Every time you mention his name, people say ‘Jason’ with a laugh. It’s kinda like everyone knows he’s fun.“
So does Wade have a fun Jason story? “Not that he’d want me to share,” said the basketball great with a laugh.
