27 W. Main St. Bay Shore, NY 631-206-2220
Located across the alley from the YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts, this trendy bar is poised to handle any and all of the extra business the playhouse crowd brings along—but it certainly doesn’t need any help in bringing in a busy scene of its own.
Featuring an ever-changing menu of beers, the one constant is that virtually all the brew hails from either Long Island, New York City or elsewhere within the borders of the Empire State.
However, if you’d rather pass on the many possible suds for sale, the bar has a full wine list (also N.Y.-oriented), a few beverages created via the infusion of different ingredients and some “spiked milkshakes”—milky drinks that have been happily doctored with vodkas. As for dining, you won’t find any entrées or full meals, but The Cortland does feature a smart “snack” selection, which includes a plate of American cheeses, a mix of chocolate truffles and Jiffy Pop—yes, the stove-top classic Jiffy Pop—here served for $5 and presented with an assortment of toppings.Hours: 4 p.m.-4 a.m. Monday-Thursday; 3 p.m.-4 a.m. Friday; Noon-4 a.m. Saturday-Sunday.
