Although summer 2013 is starting to wind down, it is possible that you have yet to take in one of the many daytime, outdoor bashes and get-togethers around the Island.

With many of those events usually found in the Hamptons, or over on Fire Island, for some a long drive or ferry ride can weigh heavily against a party far from home. But on Saturday, Aug. 24, there’s an al fresco afternoon affair taking place in Huntington — a fairly central point for most Long Islanders — and it will feature four hours of art, food and music.

From 2 -6 p.m. the SparkBoom arts initiative is throwing a block party, calling it “Off The Walls” -- a reference to the street art at the heart of this soiree. “Street art” is a style that borrows from the patterns, ideas and letterings used frequently in graffiti. And if you have ever looked at the Huntington Art Council building (213 Main St., 631-271-8423, huntingtonarts.org) and felt it could use a bit more color, this could be an event geared toward to your liking. During the day, three internationally renowned graffiti artists (NYC-based Sonic and Maspaz, plus LI’s own Phetus) will be spray-painting the outside walls of the Council.

In addition, there will be a number of food trucks and art vendors, plus live performances from LI bands such as Echo Sonic, Barbaric Yawp and Motion Ocean — and it’s all taking place in the Art Council’s parking lot.

No RSVP is necessary, but there is a $5 suggested donation for entry; for more information check out SparkBoom online at sparkboom.org and facebook.com/sparkboomli.
