If you’ve been feeling like this year hasn’t been the best for finding live freestyle shows, take heart as the “Queen” of the genre will be taking the stage this very weekend.

Last year was a bit more of a banner year for fans of freestyle music — the genre typified by a blending of dance beats, emotional vocals and sampling into a sound that ruled Long Island nightlife from the late-'80s to the early-'90s — as many of its core artists (TKA, George Lamond, Corina, Lisette Melendez) had found regular work at a number of Long Island clubs and lounges. On the other hand, the first 10 months of 2012 haven’t seen much in the way of appearances by those same mainstays.

However, on Friday, Oct. 5, Judy Torres — one of freestyle’s biggest stars — will be performing at Four Food Studio in Melville (515 Broadhollow Rd. 631-577-4444, fourfoodstudio.com).

Referred to by many as “The Queen of Freestyle,” her catalog contains songs like “Come Into My Arms” and “Please Stay Tonight,” tracks considered classics from the Island club scene of two decades past. She’ll likely be singing those standards, as well as some of her more updated material, starting after 9 p.m.

Dress to impress. Age of admission is 21 and over. Expect a possible cover charge of $10. For more information check the Four website or on the spot’s Facebook page (facebook.com/four.foodstudio).
