Two 'Christmas in July' parties this week on LI
With the summer of 2014 already past its halfway mark, many Hamptons clubs have started organizing for Labor Day weekend.
On the other hand, two East End spots are actually getting Christmas parties ready this week -- so if your need for a fix of Yuletide cheer simply can't wait until December, you'll have a pair of chances to make merry in jingle-bell fashion before August even arrives as The Sloppy Tuna and Drift Inn are both throwing “Christmas in July” celebrations.
Thursday, July 24
Although temperatures for the evening are expected to be in the low 70s, The Sloppy Tuna (148 S. Emerson Ave., Montauk, 631-647-8000) will be dressing its walls in holiday lights and Christmas trees for an affair that is to feature an appearance from Santa Claus and his helpers. Guests can also meet with Coors Light models (of both genders), jump in a photo booth, score free giveaways and even test out a couple of ice luges. No cover; check thesloppytuna.com and facebook.com/thesloppytuna for more information.
Saturday, July 26
Now located on the north side of Shinnecock Bay, there’s no need to head down Dune Road to experience the Drift Inn’s 12th annual Christmas in July bash. After years of utilizing the defunct Neptune Beach Club as its base, the Drift Inn is now at Beach Bar (58 Foster Ave., Hampton Bays, 631-988-6674) on Saturday nights. However, address change aside, its usual game plan of assembling large crowds outfitted in X-Mas attire (with prizes for best costume) and firing up snow machines (which likely means snowball fights) -- all driven by the spot’s usual blend of party music and off-the-cuff attitude -- hasn't changed. Cover is $10, but free before 10 p.m.; early arrival is recommended as this gathering is traditionally well-attended and a line is to be expected.
