The Twisted Kilt Tavern arrives in Bohemia
The bar scene in Bohemia just got a bit busier.
As of Wednesday, Dec. 5, the Twisted Kilt Tavern opened its doors for business. The tavern is at 4777 Sunrise Highway, an address that had for many years been home to Murtha's Steakhouse, a business both recognized for its menu and its large green sign easily visible from the main road.
However, passersby will now see that the large green-colored “Murtha’s” sign has been replaced by a new black-and-gold awning that announces the current tenant. Inside, everything is also fresh-looking – there are lots of memorabilia on the walls, but the room is crisp and fairly well-lighted, a rare quality among establishments that feature late-nights.
There is a dining space and a tavern: The furniture is all wood, ranging from the tables to the bar stools. Four TVs hang above and behind the bar; there’s a dartboard and a jukebox that seems to lean toward classic rock.
Diners looking for lunch and dinner will find a menu of grill items, sandwiches and appetizers -- and for those in the area who’d like an evening out, the Twisted Kilt adds a boost to a neighborhood where nightlife is scarce. The hours run until 2 a.m. daily and there is a live music calendar still in development. But come Sundays, the big party runs during daylight as the ‘Kilt does football specials on wings and beer buckets. As for the overall crowd, expect a casual mix of clientele ranging between 25 and 55, with a marked amount of jovial conversation in the air.
