The annual Hamptons Poker Challenge
When it comes to locales where gamblers come to scrap, one might think of Las Vegas, Atlantic City or Monte Carlo…but Southampton, N.Y.? In this case, it’s probably not a spot that immediately comes to mind – yet for the fourth year in a row, one venue in the Hamptons hamlet is counting on those who consider themselves skilled in the art of card playing to come together for a tournament that looks to make a charity the big winner.
On Sunday, Aug. 31, the annual Hamptons Poker Challenge is set to take place at the Southampton Social Club from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Naturally, as gambling for money is a legal no-no on LI, local opportunities to glamorously flex one’s skills with cards tend to be rare – but at this event, guests may openly bluff, act and call throughout the gala in order to benefit Hope & Heroes (hopeandheroes.org), an organization that funds the ongoing work involving childhood cancer and blood disorders at the Columbia University Medical Center in Manhattan. All proceeds raised are to go to this cause.
Top finishers will win prizes, but all players score complimentary hors d'oeuvres and cocktails while playing outdoors in the ‘Social Club’s garden space. Admission is $150 in advance, with tickets available at hpc4.eventbrite.com. For more information, check out facebook.com/southamptonsocialclub.
