It may seem hard to believe, but the summer of 2013 is already nearing the halfway point — and if you've yet to take in a Hamptons bash, one of the season’s most anticipated annual affairs is set to return for another round on Friday, June 5 in Montauk.

It’s called “Shark Attack Sounds” (SAS) and this summer’s edition will be its 11th.

Reportedly, it began as a simple Ditch Plains beach party back in 2002 — which predates Montauk’s reign as the hippest and hottest Hamptons hamlet — and furthermore makes the case that this event, with its history of drawing celebrities and the upper echelon of NYC’s warm-weather jet-setter crowd, may have in fact been a catalyst in leading Montauk to acquire its current preferred status.

There had been some rumblings earlier in the year concerning whether there would even be a 2013 Shark Attack Sounds, as last year’s shindig — which took place at Rick’s Crabby Cowboy (435 E Lake Dr., 631-668-3200) — drew so well it was actually shut down by the Town of East Hampton, as it far exceeded its allotted 800-person capacity. The East Hampton Town Board has since approved this year’s event, and given the OK for a bigger crowd to join in (3900 can happily hang now), with the ‘Sounds locale moving to the more spacious Montauk Yacht Club (32 Star Island Rd., 631-668-3100).

Doors open at 6 p.m., with beats provided by Zen Freeman, Carl Kennedy and Chelsea Leyland, three popular UK-born DJs that have each made a splash here in the USA. Tickets are $46, and for purchase or more information, head online to sharkattacksounds.com.
