Saturday Morning Cartunes: techno beats in the park
When contemplating which local public venues and event spaces are the most techno-friendly, Cedar Creek Park in Seaford might not immediately come to mind – but it has certainly proven to be a worthy spot for finding some of the hardest beats spun anywhere this year on Long Island.
Back in July, the bucolic waterside common welcomed the “Drum and Bass BBQ,” an all-day happening featuring a line-up of DJs dropping heavy, funky and alternative beats – and come Saturday, Aug. 23 it will once again serve as the host for a bash built around underground sounds as the annual “Saturday Morning Cartunes” mini-fest will be taking place from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. within the park’s boundaries.
An all-ages affair, there is no cover charge, and guests may enjoy gratis food and water (although those attending are encouraged to also contribute to the edible reserves). The music will be techno and hard dance-focused, with such talent as John “DJ X-Dream” Thomas, Hardbass Addicts, Taylor “Tribal Patriarch” Cubi and Branden “Serious Lee” Martinez among the mixers scheduled to play. In addition, Get Down! Productions -- an LI-based event company specializing in EDM parties – is throwing a similarly-styled happening at The Emporium in Patchogue (9 Railroad Ave., 631-627-8787) later that same night (9 p.m.), and is advertising it as an “unofficial after-party” to Cartunes. X-Dream is slated to spin there as well, along with a roster of selectors affiliated with Get Down, and this gathering is also free to enter, although the age of admission is 18 and older (visit theemporiumny.com for further details).
