Life on Long Island
Parlay Gastropub is (finally) on the way
It was a bit of a surprise for some when -- back in April -- McFadden’s RVC (210 Merrick Rd., Rockville Centre) announced it would be closing down, going out with a “farewell tour” of parties before shuttering in May. The tavern was easily one of LI’s busier spots at the time, often frequented by a large crowd of young men and women who patronized its themed bashes and appreciated its wild, dance-on-the-bar personality. Nonetheless, by Memorial Day 2013, the pub was gone.
However, while physically defunct, McFadden’s Facebook page stayed active -- changing its moniker to Parlay (although still designated by URL as the closed McFadden’s) and sharing through posts that a business by that same name was soon to inhabit the old McFadden’s space. At the same time, construction to the building at 210 Merrick Rd. was visibly underway.
Yet despite this burst of activity, there wasn't much more on what to expect (or when to expect it) made available; aside from some word-of-mouth that there was a potential Thanksgiving Eve opening -- which didn't happen -- those following the arrival of Parlay were still waiting.
However, since mid-December a stream of news has become apparent, and as of this writing, Parlay now offers a dedicated Facebook page (facebook.com/ParlayRVC), website (parlayrvc.com) and Twitter account (twitter.com/ParlayRVC) -- with each of these sites stating that the venue will in fact be known as Parlay Gastropub -- and that amenities such as weekend brunch, 25 big-screen TVs and 40 taps at its bar are to be expected.
As for that elusive premiere date, the impending pub has proclaimed “Coming Soon February 2014” on its promotional fliers.

*Parlay will be open for a "sneak preview" on Saturday, March 22.
