Life on Long Island
McCoy is out; On the Mile takes its place
For several years, the restaurant and bar known as the Hudson & McCoy Fish House was a major warm-weather destination on Freeport’s Nautical Mile. Hundreds of people would come to this corner spot every summer and fill its indoor space and large outdoor patio, taking on libations, conversation and lively music. Alas in 2013 the “Fish House” is no more — but the address is poised to remain a serious stop for fun.
A visit to the location reveals new signage that divulges the establishment’s new name: “Hudsons on the Mile.” Details on changes — including new decor, updates to the menu and the nightlife calendar — are yet to be announced, but its Facebook page describes what’s to be as “a playful non-intimidating fish house” that’s “set in a classic 1940's scene.”
Of course, anyone curious to see the new facade can simply drive by — but those hoping to test the new digs and its amenities will have to wait until Thursday, May 23, when the doors will open to the public and offer an evening party starring the long-running cover band Mystic.
