Life on Long Island
'Leprechaun Bar Crawl' in Huntington
For several hours on Sunday, March 9, the streets of Huntington Village were swarming with people of all ages as the Town of Huntington held its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration -- most notable for its parade, the largest held on LI -- and thousands attended, many wearing green clothing of all sorts.
However, on Saturday, March 15, a different kind of event will possibly bring large groups to many of those same roads -- and although green will once again play a major part, this time the attendees will strictly be 21 years of age and older as the party planning group Long Island Social Events will be leading its “Leprechaun Bar Crawl” from noon to 6 p.m.
Tickets are available in advance for $25, or day-of for $30, with the admission price granting all partakers an hour of drink specials at each stop along the way -- an itinerary that will include Huntington Village Tavern (378 New York Ave., 631-271-4828; offering two domestic bottles of beer for $5), JT Carrington’s (10 Elm St., 631-427-9666; a two-for-one drinks deal), Honu Kitchen & Cocktails (363 New York Ave., 631-421-6900; $5 drinks), Christopher’s (8 Wall St., 631-271-0111; two-for-one drinks), Mary Carroll’s (1 Clinton Ave., 631-223-2088; half-priced drinks), Rookies Sports Club (70 Gerard St., 631-923-0424; $3 beer) and Finley’s of Greene Street (43 Green St., 631-351-3440; two-for-one drinks).
Participants will also have access to complimentary shots (the mixture of which is yet to be announced) handed out by hosts, who will be present and wearing orange shirts -- but crawlers are asked to wear green, with a prize awarded to the person whose St. Patrick’s Day costume is deemed the best of all (the voting will be done via social media). Gift certificates will also be winnable by means of a raffle.
Long Island Social Events has stated it also plans to use a portion of the proceeds and the raffle take to benefit the family of 13-year-old Caralyn Stein of Kings Park, who has been diagnosed with dystonia, a neuromuscular disorder.
