It's time for the Sleigh Rye'd Pub Crawl
For craft beer aficionados, the release of a new brew can be reason enough to spend a Saturday afternoon traveling for suds-tasting purposes -- but as responsible drinkers know; driving somewhere to imbibe is not an acceptable practice. However, taking the bus to grab a beer is a wise alternative. But how many buses head directly to the bar you need to patronize?
In the case of one annual event, these issues have been resolved, as the tour operator Tapped Enterprises -- an organization that looks to spread “beer awareness” and is connected to a conveyance known as the LI Beer Bus -- offers a yearly pub crawl that directly transports its participants in order to sample a unique draft: the Great South Bay Brewery’s Sleigh Ryed Winter Ale.
Brewed with juniper berries, Sleigh Ryed is only available seasonally from late November thru January -- and on Saturday, Dec. 7, the Beer Bus will be heading out to four spots that offer ‘Ryed by way of cask -- in an undertaking that is known as the "Sleigh Rye'd Pub Crawl," now in its third year.
Starting at 2 p.m., a $45 a ticket will take all partakers to O'Reilly's Restaurant & Pub in Oakdale (927 Montauk Hwy, 631-472-4200) and T.J. Finley’s in Bay Shore (42 E. Main St., 631-647-4856), as well as to Patchogue’s Hoptron Brewtique (22 West Main St., 631-438-0296) and Tap Room (114 West Main St., 631-569-5577). Ticket holders get a free cask drink ticket for each destination plus a promotional Santa-styled hat to mark both the season and the occasion. A limited number of tickets are available at libeerbus.com; four locations for pickup are available, and can be selected as part of the purchase process.
