During the month of October, it’s not unusual to find bars that throw “Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day” bashes — events that basically replicate the holiday's green-wearing and enjoyment of libations, but done six months in advance of the actual March 17 occurrence.

Building on the notion of partying in the name of an even bigger party due some pages forward on the calendar, T.J. Finley's Public House in Bay Shore (42 E. Main St., Bay Shore, 631-647-4856) is set to throw a soiree that anticipates a different holiday known for its good times, yet doesn’t arrive until late May.

Taking place on Saturday, Dec. 22, the “Halfway to Memorial Day” event is scheduled to deliver such amenities as a 3-hour open bar, a 50/50 raffle and dance beats (to be supplied by the ever-popular DJ Epic). However, before assuming that this is just a clever promotion to inspire summer lovers to come hang in the name of the day that kicks off their favorite season, know that this event is actually a fundraiser.

All in attendance will be asked to pay $50, but $20 of that fee will be donated to the Ocean Bay Park (OBP) Homeowners Association (, in order to help facilitate the rebuilding of Ocean Bay Park — one of the many Fire Island hamlets to suffer damage due to superstorm Sandy.

Doors open at 10 p.m.; for more information check online at and
