Life on Long Island
First annual Bay Shore 'Santa Dash'
One way to describe the event happening at Declan Quinn’s in Bay Shore on Sunday, Dec. 16: there’s going to be a lot of “Santa” going on.
Starting at noon, this pub known for its unique promotions (like kickball games, wig-wearing karaoke and “Beatlemania” parties) will conduct a “Santa Dash” — a happening that will unleash a possible horde of Santas across town. Any adult can participate — just be sure to dress in a seriously-festive Kriss Kringle costume and register (registration is noon-2 p.m.). Once the event begins, all the Santas will be given a sheet listing Bay Shore bars (such as Half-Penny Pub, Changing Times, The Cortland, T.J. Finley’s and Declan’s itself) with the mission of “dashing” to them all. Once finished with the list (and yes, you should check it twice…), return to Declan Quinn’s to score your 2012 Santa Dash Tote-Bag and commemorative card.
Meanwhile, during the merry melee, Santa Claus will also actually be at Declan’s (at 1 p.m.) to meet youngsters at this family-friendly party which also happens to be a food and toy drive to help local children in need — so guests are invited to not only bring goods for donation, but a camera as well to capture the moment. In addition, there will be drink specials and live music from the Lou Saxon Duo.
Dashers must pay $10 and bring a nonperishable food item to run. For more information, check out Declan Quinn’s on Facebook at facebook.com/declan.quinns.
