Life on Long Island
Drag-powered fundraiser at Bunk House
Looking to help with the rescue efforts in place around Long Island after the destruction caused by superstorm Sandy, the Bunk House in Patchogue is throwing a one-of-a-kind bash on Sunday, Nov. 18.
Several nightclubs, bars and lounges have been doing their part to contribute to the recovery cause -- hosting special concerts and benefits, or just pledging revenue to the charitable organizations that are helping provide relief to residents in need. Starting at 9 p.m. the Bunk House will host its affair: “Hurricane Sandy Is A Drag” -- a fundraiser whose proceeds will assist both the Long Island Cares food bank and the American Red Cross.
There will be a suggested $10 donation at the door, and nonperishable foods (like canned goods) are requested (monies raised will be received by the Red Cross, edible items will go to Long Island Cares). The reception itself will feature raffles and a silent auction. As for the entertainment, there will be drag performances throughout the night. In addition, there is a scheduled special appearance from the Imperial Court of New York, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization that raises funds for social service and health support agencies that work on behalf of (but not limited to) the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
