Life on Long Island
Cancer fundraiser at Bunk House in Patchogue
The Bunk House is Patchogue is currently one of the Island’s main stops for LGBT nightlife, and it plays host to drag shows on a frequent and regular basis. Most of the time, these events are thrown simply to entertain, but this weekend there’s a program scheduled to amuse while also helping to support a special cause.
It’s being called “Cancer Is a Drag,” and on April 28, the Bunk House stage will see almost two dozen drag performers ply their craft in the name of Stepping Stone Support (steppingstonesupport.org), a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to help men, women and families affected by cancer and infertility.
The doors open at 8 p.m., and such Bunk House favorites as Mimi Carey and Valentino (“Mr. Long Island Drag King”) are among those slated to regale the crowd -- but the main event is to be an appearance by Ivy Winters, an artiste who recently starred on the LOGO cable channel’s “RuPaul's Drag Race” reality show as a contestant during its most current season.
