Life on Long Island
Caffeine and creativity combine for ‘Sip and Paint’
Familiar with the concept of a “Drink and Draw” event? It’s not exactly your average night on the town — as it involves spending a session at a spot handcrafting while enjoying beverages throughout.
Long Island first witnessed such happenings at The Cortland, a pub in Bay Shore that specializes in craft beer and unique parties. The pub has been holding these gatherings on a semiregular basis since opening its doors in late 2010. (Its last “D & D” took place back in January.) It will be hosting its next on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. Attendees pay a fee that grants each guest two pints of a microbrew, a brush, paint and a blank canvas plus voluntary instruction from a local artiste.
But perhaps you are located in Nassau County, and not necessarily looking for alcoholic beverages, yet still enticed by the idea of such an unusual undertaking?
As it turns out, the offbeat, party-friendly Valley Stream coffeehouse, Sip This, will be holding a similarly styled get-together which it’s calling “Sip and Paint” on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Sip’s affair will run from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., and while comparable to The Cortland’s doings, will be pouring fresh-brewed coffee, rather than brewskies.
