Life on Long Island
Body English Tuesdays return for a fifth season
In what has become a Long Island summer nightlife tradition, the Body English lounge and dance party returns to the Chateau Briand in Carle Place for a fifth season on June 4 at 9 p.m.
Back in 2009, its creators (hospitality specialists Bobby Goodrich and Richard Bedrosian) chose Tuesday for the weekly affair, due to the fact that Tuesdays are traditionally a lackluster night for events. The hope was that Body English could grow as a draw on an otherwise hard-sell night, as it would be free of serious competition . . . and their thinking proved correct. The Body bash was a smash during its first year, and has since established itself as a premiere gathering – with the soiree since blossoming into a popular, often filled-to-capacity happening, despite its midweek occurrence.
Anyone considering a first-ever visit can expect a mature, well-dressed crowd (average age range is 25-50) that will likely fill the courtyard of the Chateau, as well as pack the dance floor inside the Carle Place event space. The decor of daybeds, palm trees and lounge seating is the norm, and it is all surrounded by the venue’s tall walls, which easily block out the traffic bustle of nearby Old Country Road.
Table service, as always, will be available -- but a check of the bottle menu reveals a reasonably-priced selection – which is similar to what is found at Hamptons fetes, except here the highest priced option is not a magnum of champagne but instead a premium tequila ($500 bottle of Patron Platinum) and a choice scotch ($675 Johnnie Walker Blue Label). As for the food menu, a selection of sushi, appetizers and personal pizzas returns, along with sake and Japanese beer.
