Life on Long Island
Body English Tuesdays coming back for a sixth season
Now that St. Patrick's Day - the ultimate day for pub/club celebrating - has passed, the next focus for fun-seekers in 2014 is what’s doing for the summer season, despite the fact that its official starting point is still about two months away (with Memorial Day Weekend; this year it’s May 23-25, plus Monday, May 26).
Nonetheless, conversation concerning the possibilities has begun, and that discussion includes all the hot-weather hot spots in such destinations as the Hamptons, Fire Island, the venues that dot the shores of the Great South Bay, Shelter Island, Greenport and … Carle Place?
It may not be anywhere near a dock or beach, but as far as summer goes on LI, Body English Tuesdays has been a recurrent standard for good times since the get-together kicked off at the Chateau Briand event space and banquet hall in June 2009. Utilizing the high Briand courtyard walls to block out the bustle of adjacent Old Country Road, the bash is an outdoor happening decorated with palm trees, day beds, fire pits and manmade ponds -- a scene attended by a crowd of nicely dressed, mature people socializing, snacking on sushi, sipping cocktails, ordering bottle service and dancing (indoors) as a DJ plays all sorts of beats. In addition, it is uniquely held on Tuesdays – generally the least-active night for Long Island nightlife – which means Body English has virtually no competitors.
Opening day is not until June 3 – but for anyone who might be seeking a shot at getting hired as a bartender, doorman, waitress or other related position, its parent company Long Island Promotion Group (lipromotiongroup.com) is advertising that a “casting call” will happen on Monday, April 28 and Wednesday, May 7 from 7-9 p.m. at the Chateau.
