Life on Long Island
Art and music at 'SparkBoom' kick-off
As the public prepares to receive SparkBoom, SparkBoom will receive the public with a kickoff party this weekend.
”SparkBoom” is an arts initiative created by a collective of Long Island-based small business, municipal and nonprofit groups (partners include the Art League of Long Island, Ripe Art Gallery, the Heckscher Museum of Art and the Huntington Arts Council), with the intention of creating a combined effort to both support and strengthen local talent while promoting Long Island’s creative culture.
The overall SparkBoom calendar of events will unfold and evolve until September, but opens on April 6 at Foto Foto Gallery in Huntington (14 W. Carver St., 631-549-0448). Starting at 6 p.m., the three-hour, no-cover affair will feature “New York Underground,” an exhibit from photographer Richard Gardner (richardgardnerphotography.com) and an installation piece from Farmingdale artist Michelle Carollo (michellecarollo.com). In addition, there will be food served and a DJ set from experimental musicians Rob Paterson and Colin Kasprowicz – who together work as the duo known as Multiple Mono.
