Popular around the nation, line dancing is bringing together groups of men and women of all ages to perform dance routines tailored to specific songs. The gatherings serve as chances to learn moves and execute the kicks, slides, turns and hops that make up most of the routines.

Before 2011, however, there weren't many opportunities for country music fans to go line dancing on Long Island. But there has been a surge of interest lately, with a number of nightclubs offering weekly events in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
